The aim of the
course is to build relationships and get to know people. Most evangelism
has the emphasis on the church. With this course the emphasis is on the
people involved - what do they believe? What do they want from this
life? What do they need?
This is not a new idea, it is how it was
from the beginning. Jesus became one of us. He got to know people. He
spoke to them about things they understood and met their needs. When
Jesus asked Peter "who do you say that I am?" Peter knew the answer
because he had discovered it for himself by getting to know Jesus, not
by being told what he had to believe.
Too often we as Christians forget that
others have their own opinions and it is not always appreciated when we
go to people with our opinions and tell them theirs are wrong! However,
by getting to know people as individuals, forming friendships and
talking over the things that concern us, we can share our faith and our
beliefs, and hopefully, people will see and get to know Jesus through
us.
